What types of procedures do you offer?

We offer a variety of services for patients of all ages. On top of routine cleanings and exams, we also offer orthodontics, such as braces and Invisalign aligners. Our team also performs procedures such as crowns, bridges, extractions, inlays, and onlays. In addition, our office offers oral cancer screenings, oral sedation, and hygiene education.

If you ever suffer a dental issue outside of our office hours, we offer emergency dentistry so you can be pain-free any time of the day.

What are your office hours?

We are open from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday. On Fridays, we are open from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. We understand that it can be hard to schedule an appointment during these time frames during the week, especially if you are busy with work or school.

Therefore, we offer convenient Saturday hours as well, from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. We are closed on Thursdays and Sundays.

What types of fillings are available for cavities?

In the past, silver amalgam fillings were the norm for filling in cavities. While the least expensive, these fillings are also the most unsightly. There are several other options to choose from nowadays, including gold, ceramic/porcelain, composite (tooth-colored), and glass ionomer.

Gold fillings are the most expensive but can last 10-15 years. Ceramic and porcelain fillings can cost as much as gold ones but last more than 15 years and are more resistant to staining than other materials. Composite fillings are the most aesthetically pleasing, but they don’t last as long (maybe 5-10 years) and chip easily.

Glass ionomers are not used as often. They are best for cavities below the gum line. They cost about the same as composite fillings but are generally weak and last fewer than five years.

Why would I need a crown?

A crown, also known as a cap, covers up a tooth to restore strength and function. Generally, a tooth needs a crown when its tooth structure is compromised due to a cavity, fracture, or other damage. Generally speaking, the rule of thumb is that if the tooth structure has been damaged more than half the width of the tooth, it needs to be restored with a crown.

Crowns should feel comfortable and function as real teeth. A good crown will last 20-30 years with proper care.

Do my wisdom teeth need to be removed?

Not necessarily. Not all wisdom teeth have to be removed and there are no health benefits of doing so unnecessarily. They are usually only removed if they cause problems or are likely to in the future. If you are experiencing pain or damage to your jaw or nearby teeth, then it would be best to remove them.

However, there are risks involved in the removal, such as pain and infection. Discuss the situation with your dentist.

I have tooth alignment issues and I don’t want braces. Do you offer Invisalign?

Yes! If you want to fix your less-than-perfect smile but are self-conscious about braces, Invisalign can be the perfect solution. Invisalign uses clear aligners to help you straighten teeth without brackets and wires. You use multiple sets of aligners to gradually move your teeth into the desired position.

Invisalign can fix a variety of mild to moderate alignment cases, including crowded or crooked teeth, gaps between teeth, underbite, overbite, crossbite, and open bite.  Blue Sky Dental offers Invisalign to eligible patients, so contact us today to learn more.

What are veneers?

Veneers are wafer-thin shells designed to cover the front surface of teeth to improve your appearance. They are made of tooth-colored materials, such as porcelain and resin composite. They are customized to the shape of your teeth and are bonded to the tooth’s original enamel.

They are ideal for teeth that are stained, chipped, or have gaps. Keep in mind that they are a cosmetic solution only and will not straighten teeth.

What other types of cosmetic dentistry do you offer?

We also offer teeth whitening, which is an in-office procedure that bleaches teeth. We use a two-visit process. At the first appointment, we make impressions of your teeth to fabricate clear, plastic trays. At your second appointment, you will try on the trays for proper fit, and we will make any necessary adjustments.

The trays are worn with a special whitening solution for a specific period of time based on the level of whitening you desire.

How do dental implants work?

If you are missing one or more teeth, an implant may be an option. A dental implant replaces a missing tooth through several parts: the dental implant body, the abutment, and a fixation screw. The implant body is surgically inserted in the jawbone and serves as the tooth’s root.

The abutment is attached to the implant body by the abutment fixation screw and extends through gums into the mouth to support the attached fake tooth. Dental implants look and function just like real teeth and can last a lifetime with proper care.
